California is one of the most popular states for physicians applying for medical licenses. Every month, around three hundred physicians apply for California Medical Licensing Board Verification.

License verification was earlier known as Letters of Good Standing. License verification lets you know about the physician’s current practicing status and other information. In-depth license verification is essential for getting more information about the candidate’s disciplinary actions and additional information.

California is one of the 17 states with separate boards for allopathic and osteopathic physicians. It is significant for any hospital or healthcare facility to hire highly qualified physicians. The medical licensing board of California ensures it.

The California Medical Licensing Board Verification looks for certain eligibility criteria in the verification process.

  • All the requirements must be fulfilled for a Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited medical school.
  • For American and Canadian candidates – One year of postgraduate training.
  • For International Students – Two years of postgraduate training in the same specialty and Educational Commission For Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
  • A passing score on FLEX, NBME, or USMLE.
  • Proven clinical proficiency by fulfilling at least one of the

         following requirements:

  • Have licensure in another state, province, or territory, and practice medicine in another area for at least two of the last four years, or
  • Having a passing score on a clinical competency examination that is approved by a board the year before filing the application, or
  • Completing a postgraduate training program approved by the board within two years before the filing of the application, or
  • Having a passing score in a national examination like FLEX, USMLE, or NBME, or current, valid licensure in Canada or the U.S., and active practice of medicine under current licensure for at least 10 years, Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) examination, and successful passing of the Special Purpose Exam (SPEX), successful passing of a state board.

Applying for the California Medical Licensing Board Verification is not too tricky. There are two ways (offline and online) that a physician can use for medical licensing verification in California.

The first is contacting VeriDoc, which is the online portal. This process is faster and more convenient for most individuals. Also, it is less time-consuming. This process takes about two hours to finish and submit the application. The applicants must take a few minutes for revision. After paying the required fees, the state board will get the application within 24 hours of submission.

The second way is an offline application which requires applicants to send the application via mail. This is indeed much more time-consuming than the former. It takes about four to six weeks.

After submitting the application, the medical licensing board will verify the required documents discussed above. Then the next step is the criminal background check. The California Medical Board will not issue the license unless it gets the applicant’s criminal background.

The electronic fingerprinting process does the verification. The fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice and the FBI for criminal records.

California is historically one of the states where licensing is quite hard and difficult to get. The California Medical Licensing Board Verification can be made easy if the applicants don’t waste time and keep all the required documents ready to present. Also, the applicants must remain up-to-date regarding recent changes made in the process for a hassle-free experience.
