The licensing process in the United States is one of the most complex and time-consuming. Making the situation more difficult for the physicians is getting different licenses for different states. Hawaii’s Pacific paradise is one of the most exciting states to work in as a physician. If you are a physician and looking for Hawaii medical licensing requirements, you must know a few things, then relax and read the subsequent sections for safe practice in Hawaii.

How to get Hawaii Medical License

Hawaii’s total population is more than 1,400,000, and it has about 10,000 licensed physicians. This means that there are about 700 physicians per 100,000 people.

Hawaii Board of Medicine ensures that every physician meets the minimum requirements to practice safe medicine in the state. Physicians are required to apply to the board to get their license. The process includes the completion of the application form, submitting fees, providing documents, and background checks.

A physician must fulfill the Hawaii medical licensing requirements for a successful application. The process takes about 2-3 days, and it is reviewed in 30 days. Here are some requirements that every physician must meet.

Minimum Requirements to Get Medical License in Hawaii

First things first, an applicant must have to be a graduate of a physician assistant training program. And this program should be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs or its successor organization.

The Hawaii Medical Board does not recognize the LMCC exam. The applicant should have passed the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) administered proficiency examination. The proficiency test is mandatory for getting the NCCPA certificate.

Additionally, the applicant should hold the certificate issued by the NCCPA. It does not matter if a physician has cleared the NCCPA proficiency exam; if they do not have an issued certificate, they do not meet the minimum requirements and hence cannot apply for the Hawaii medical board license.

Renewing Hawaii Medical Licensing Requirements

Renewing the medical license is equally important as getting a medical license for any physician. Hawaii has a strict medical license renewal process. The physicians are required to renew their medical licenses every two years.

The physicians have to fulfill certain conditions like completing and submitting the application form, paying the application fees, and submitting the current address of the practicing facility.

Moreover, physicians whose licenses are expired must submit a reactivation request to the board and must fulfil the conditions mentioned above. Also, they are required to pay an extra fee apart from the application fees.

It is important for every physician to check the latest guidelines to see if they meet Hawaii Medical Licensing Requirements. Medical boards tend to make some amendments every year to make the medical practice fairer. So, physicians should prepare for the licensing requirements in advance.
