FREE PALS CERTIFICATION

PALS {Pediatric Advanced Life Support} certification or recertification is essential for healthcare workers who handle emergencies among infants and children. The training is important for all healthcare providers who work in critical care, intensive care, and emergency room departments.

The objective of a PALS course is to equip healthcare workers with the skills necessary to take care of ill or seriously injured children. This translates to an improved survival rate for injured or ill kids.

You can choose to take PALS online-only classes, or to opt for blended classes. In the blended model, you start online, then join a hands-on class for skills training.

Throughout your PALS recertification online course, you will learn to readily assess and identify patient needs during critical situations. You will learn how to handle shock as well as respiratory and cardiac emergencies. This coursework also equips you with the skills necessary for you to assure a child’s return to spontaneous circulation during resuscitation.

Below is what you can expect during your medtigo PALS recertification or certification course.

Primary topics you will cover in your PALS certification and re-certification courses include:

  • High-quality infant CPR
  • Child CPR and the use of AEDs in children
  • Description of cardiopulmonary issues early and the use of CPR to save a life within the first ten minutes of pulmonary crisis
  • Differentiation between respiratory failure versus distress
  • Early intervention procedures for respiratory failure and distress
  • Differences between decompensated {hypotensive} and compensated pediatric shock
  • Initial treatment of shock
  • Distinction between stable and unstable patients with arrhythmias
  • Clinical pointers of instability in children with arrhythmias
  • Management of a post-cardiac arrest patient
  • Team dynamics in handling pediatric emergencies

PALS Algorithm Types

The critical elements for your immediate recall, as you manage a pediatric emergency, are simplified into algorithms for PALS training. The algorithms resemble flowcharts with yes-or-no answers, and the subsequent flowchart steps based on those answers.

Here are the PALS algorithms:

  • Pediatric cardiac arrest
  • Bradycardia with poor perfusion
  • Post-resuscitation care
  • Pediatric BLS
  • Tachycardia

  • I enjoy working for medtigo because of the support I have from my coworkers and bosses. Teamwork is the expectation and reality when you work for medtigo. In the midst of a stretch of “black out cloud shifts” and Murphy’s Law colliding, I called my boss and administrative assistant because of concerns regarding my impending return to work. My boss, administrative assistant, and another medtigo colleagues all collaborated to help give me some recovery time to return to work more refreshed. I am grateful to work for a company that takes both my welfare and patient safety so seriously.

  • I have been working in Emergency Medicine for 27 years. For most of my career, I have worked in small, democratic, independent groups, which has been very rewarding. For the past three years, I have been working as a locum tenens doctor for medtigo and these have been the best three years of my career. I have enjoyed working at multiple different ED’s, which have been very welcoming and appreciative of my work. Best of all, I have been compensated at a much higher level than in the past. The medtigo administrative staff has been great in helping me create a flexible schedule that works for me and with all the steps needed to get credentialed at the various hospitals.
