Actions and SpectrumÂ
Antihistamines like brompheniramine work by preventing the effects of histamine, a chemical the body produces when it has an allergic reaction. A wide range of allergic diseases, such as hay fever, allergic rhinitis, and other respiratory allergens, are responsive to the antihistamine brompheniramine.Â
In order to relieve congestion, pseudoephedrine narrows the blood vessels in the nasal passages. pseudoephedrine works well to relieve nasal congestion brought on by allergies, sinusitis, and the common cold for a short period of time.

Contraindication:Â
Caution:Â
Pregnancy warnings:    Â
Pregnancy category: C (not recommended in first tri-mester or last 2 weeks of pregnancy)Â
Lactation: avoid use Â
Pregnancy Categories:        Â
Category A: well-controlled and Satisfactory studies show no risk to the fetus in the first or later trimester.Â
Category B: there was no evidence of risk to the fetus in animal studies, and there were not enough studies on pregnant women. Â
Category C: there was evidence of risk of adverse effects in animal reproduction studies, and no adequate evidence in human studies must take care of potential risks in pregnant women.Â
Category D: adequate data with sufficient evidence of human fetal risk from various platforms, but despite the potential risk, and used only in emergency cases for potential benefits.Â
Category X: Drugs listed in this category outweigh the risks over benefits. Hence these categories of drugs need to be avoided by pregnant women.Â
Category N: There is no data available for the drug under this category.Â
Pharmacology Â
The action of brompheniramine involves the specific blockade of histamine H1 receptors. The molecule histamine, which is released during an allergic reaction, is inhibited by it. Â
Alpha-adrenergic receptors are stimulated by pseudoephedrine to produce its effects. Vasoconstriction is brought on by it, which causes the blood vessels in the nasal passages to contract and lessen swelling and congestion.Â
PharmacodynamicsÂ
Histamine H1 receptors are antagonistic by brompheniramine. It suppresses the effects of histamine, which is released during an allergic reaction, by attaching to these receptors. Â
Beta-adrenergic receptors can also be stimulated by pseudoephedrine, which can increase blood pressure and heart rate. At therapeutic levels, this effect is typically negligible, but at greater doses, it may become more prominent.Â
PharmacokineticsÂ
Absorption  Â
brompheniramine is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. Â
pseudoephedrine is also well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration.Â
DistributionÂ
Both brompheniramine and pseudoephedrine are distributed throughout the body, including the central nervous system. Â
MetabolismÂ
brompheniramine undergoes hepatic metabolism, primarily through the cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP2D6. Â
pseudoephedrine is primarily metabolized in the liver through various enzymatic pathways. Â
Elimination and excretionÂ
Both brompheniramine and pseudoephedrine are eliminated primarily through the renal route.
AdministrationÂ
brompheniramine/pseudoephedrine is available in oral formulations, such as tablets or capsules.

Generic Name: brompheniramine/ pseudoephedrineÂ
Why do we use brompheniramine/ pseudoephedrine?Â
brompheniramine/pseudoephedrine can help alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis, including sneezing, itching, runny or stuffy nose, and watery eyes. brompheniramine/pseudoephedrine is a combination medication used to relieve symptoms associated with allergies and the common cold. Â
