Contraindications:Â
Cautions:Â
Comorbidities:Â
Pregnancy warnings:    Â
Pregnancy category: contraindicatedÂ
Lactation: contraindicatedÂ
Pregnancy Categories:        Â
Category A: Studies that were well-controlled and met expectations revealed no risk to the fetus in either the first or second trimester.Â
Category B: There were lack of studies on pregnant women and no evidence of risk to the foetus in animal experiments.  Â
Category C: there was evidence of risk of adverse effects in animal reproduction studies, and no adequate evidence in human studies must take care of potential risks in pregnant women.   Â
Category D: adequate data available with sufficient evidence of human fetal risk from various platforms, but despite the potential risk, and used only in emergency cases for potential benefits.  Â
Category X: Drugs listed in this category outweigh the risks over benefits. Hence these categories of drugs need to be avoided by pregnant women.   Â
Category N: There is no data available for the drug under this categoryÂ

PharmacodynamicsÂ
PharmacokineticsÂ
Absorption  Â
piracetam is well-absorbed after oral administration. It gets rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak blood levels typically reached within 1 to 3 hours. The bioavailability of piracetam is approximately 100%.Â
DistributionÂ
piracetam has a low binding affinity to plasma proteins, which allows it to distribute widely throughout the body, including the brain. It readily crosses the blood-brain barrier, reaching therapeutic concentrations in the central nervous system (CNS).Â
MetabolismÂ
piracetam has minimal metabolism in the body. It is excreted unchanged in the urine. The liver plays a minor role in metabolizing piracetam, with only a small fraction being metabolized through hydroxylation and glucuronidation.Â
Elimination and excretionÂ
piracetam is eliminated via the kidneys. Approximately 80% of the administered dose gets excreted unchanged in the urine. Renal impairment may affect the clearance of piracetam, and dose adjustments may be necessary in individuals with severe renal impairment.Â
