Why do we use rituximab?
Rituximab is a monoclonal antibody that worked against the protein CD20 which is present on the external cell lining of a specific family of
white blood cells known as B lymphocytes. It is used in various medical conditions, including:
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: Rituximab is most often used in conjunction with chemotherapy for some subtypes of NHL, including follicular lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and other types.
Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia: It may be administered together with chemotherapy or alone in CLL, especially if the CD20 protein appears on the surface of the cancerous B-cells.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: Rituximab is administered when other therapies for rheumatoid arthritis have failed. It was found useful in the management of arthritis because it worked by reducing the accumulation and activities of immune cells that caused inflammation in the joints.
