Action:
The medicine, robenacoxib, targets an enzyme called COX-2. COX-2 makes chemicals, prostaglandins, that cause inflammation. Inflammation leads to pain, swelling, and redness. By blocking COX-2, robenacoxib reduces prostaglandins. With less prostaglandins, inflammation decreases. This helps relieve pain from conditions like arthritis or surgery.
Spectrum:
Pain relief and swelling control: robenacoxib treats this in cats and dogs. Vets give it for conditions like arthritis pain and after surgery. For cats and dogs, it fights inflammation and discomfort.

Pharmacology:
Robenacoxib is an anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the NSAID family, specifically the coxib group. It fights inflammation by specifically targeting the COX-2 enzyme, which creates inflammatory compounds called prostaglandins. Unlike regular NSAIDs, robenacoxib focuses on COX-2, potentially reducing stomach issues. As a coxib, robenacoxib effectively relieves pain and inflammation, especially in conditions like osteoarthritis. It also tends to have a safer profile compared to other anti-inflammatory drugs.
Pharmacodynamics:
Robenacoxib’s job is to block COX-2, an enzyme vital in making prostaglandins – compounds linked to inflammation. Doing that reduces prostaglandin levels where inflammation occurs. In turn, pain, swelling, and fever lessen. Its selective targeting avoids impacting other enzymes and pathways.

Absorption
Cats and dogs experience rapid absorption. The peak levels of the medicine in their blood occur between 1-2 hours after taking it orally.
Distribution
In both species, the medicine tightly binds to proteins in the blood, over 98%. Dogs have a moderate volume of distribution at 0.24 L/kg, while cats have 0.13 & 0.19 L/kg.
Metabolism
The liver primarily breaks down the medicine through S-methylation and glucuronidation processes. No active breakdown products are formed.
Excretion and Elimination
The medicine is mainly eliminated through feces via bile excretion in dogs and cats.
Administration:
Veterinarians direct whether to give tablets to pets along with food or not. Unless specifically told, tablets must not be crushed or divided into pieces. Pets may receive tablets directly into their mouth. If needed, mixing tablets with a small amount of food helps pets consume them.
