Secalciferol, 24,25-dihydroxyvitamin D 3/24R, 25(OH)(2)D(3)
Class :
Vitamin D supplements
Dosage Forms & Strengths
Adult dosing
Bone fracture
It is indicated for use in treating fractures of bones and osteoporosis.
Actions and spectrum:
Secalciferol is an essential hormone that plays a crucial role in the healing of fractured bone and has a physiological role in the metabolism of human bone and minerals, leading to enhanced synthesis of osteocalcin. Seclaciferol can bind the ligand binding domain to a nuclear protein VDR (vitamin D receptor). This binding triggers the inhibition of calcium channels and regulates calcium homeostasis.

Pharmacology:
Secalciferol is the primary metabolite of vitamin D.
Pharmacodynamics:
In vitro studies suggest that treating with secalciferol reduced chondrogenic ATDC5 and increased the specific activity of alkaline phosphatase in a dose-related manner. It also reversed the Pi-induced apoptosis.

Why do we use secalciferol?
Secalciferol is involved in proliferation, calcium homeostasis, and cellular differentiation, along with various immune system functions. It is indicated in treating disorders due to phosphor and calcium homeostasis. It is also a marker in the catabolism of vitamin D3. This drug also helps heal fractured bones and osteoporosis.
