Generic Name: tolterodineÂ
Why do we use tolterodine?Â
tolterodine is a medication that is used to treat urinary incontinence (inability to control urine flow) and urinary frequency (having to urinate too often) in adults. It is an antimuscarinic medication, which means it works by blocking the action of a chemical called acetylcholine on certain muscles in the bladder and other parts of the body. By blocking acetylcholine, tolterodine can relax the muscles in the bladder and prevent involuntary contractions, which can help to control urinary incontinence and reduce the frequency of urination.Â
tolterodine is usually prescribed to people who have overactive bladder, which is a condition that causes a sudden and strong need to urinate. It can also be used to treat other conditions that cause urinary incontinence, such as urinary retention (difficulty emptying the bladder), neurogenic bladder (a bladder disorder caused by nerve damage), and stress incontinence (urine leakage that occurs when physical activity or other stress is placed on the bladder).Â
