Apparently, there are tens of millions of Astra-Zeneca’s vaccine doses sitting in warehouses in the United States but are not being released or distributed to Americans. See this recent article in the New York Times. The reason? It is because the company has not released results from its domestic clinical trials and has not applied for emergency use by the FDA. The vaccine however is approved in over 70 countries around the world with all of them as with the United States facing greater demand than supply. Should the United States release Astra-Zeneca Vaccines to countries that have approved the vaccine? Should we hold on to them and wait for the clinical trial results even if that could take several weeks or more to come out?
