Women are at a higher risk of job displacement by AI than men, with approximately one-third of the total working hours in the US projected to be automated by the end of the current decade. This rapid automation and AI adoption are expected to result in around 12 million individuals needing to transition to new occupations. Notably, women are 1.5 times more likely than men to face the need for a career change. This disparity is attributed to women being more represented in lower-paying industries, such as office work and customer service, which are expected to experience more significant reductions due to automation and AI.
Furthermore, those in lower-wage jobs will disproportionately feel the impact of automation and AI. Such individuals may be up to 14 times more likely to require a shift to different professions compared to those who hold higher-paying positions. This disparity in the impact of technological advancements on various segments of the workforce raises concerns about the potential exacerbation of gender and income inequalities in the job market.

Socio-cultural factors affect women more than women. Take an example :Childbearing and upbringing ,pull the woman out of work for a period of time this results into a gap which the employer would want to fill with AI(maternity/Paternity leaves).Other factors such as menstrual pains and PMS affect the general output of a woman.

I guess the fact that men ate physically stronger (manual jobs) could be a factor. But i definitely want to mention the fact that machines could replace them very fast. Women on the other hand seem to be more placed in admin tyoes of jobs which i think might be a ” safer” position. Yet, machines dont choose.. Humans do.

Women may be more likely to lose their jobs to AI than men due to existing gender disparities in the workforce. Occupations that have a higher percentage of female workers, such as administrative and clerical roles, are often more susceptible to automation. Additionally, bias in AI algorithms and historical job segregation can further contribute to this gender gap in job displacement. Efforts to address these disparities and provide upskilling opportunities are essential to mitigate the impact on women in the workforce.
