Antimicrobial resistance stands as a formidable 21st-century threat to global human health. Children and neonates, in particular, bear the brunt of this crisis, facing an alarming surge in resistance to commonly prescribed antibiotics. The burden of these infections falls disproportionately on low- and middle-income countries, where most young children’s deaths occur. The alarming rates of resistance to commonly prescribed antibiotics in the Asia-Pacific region call for immediate attention and action to preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics for future generations. Healthcare systems and governments must work together to address this critical issue and ensure the availability of effective treatments for bacterial infections in the most vulnerable populations.

I agree with this. The patient often requests for antibiotics or the pharmacist advises antibiotics for common cold or sore throat. There are rare occurences where a pharmacist actually provides information on usage and completion of an antibiotic course.

There are multiple reasons for this question but I would mention only few of them.
      1) people are ignorant of under developed countries
      2) people do not know the pro and cons of the antibiotics
      3) people have easy accessibility to antibiotics
      4) people always use empirically and over dose
      5) Even the doctors who prescribed do not know the consequences of overdose of antibiotics
