Sleep is a very important physiological state as it keeps a person mentally and physically well. But if a person has disorders that affect sleep, it can affect their health very badly. A recent study published in the European Journal of Pediatrics highlights a link between childhood sleep disorders and the development of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in preadolescence. This research was conducted by researchers from the University of Valencia. This study is very important as it showed the causes of ADHD. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder and affects 7.5% of children every year. Â
In this study, researchers involved 1244 boys and girls. These boys and girls were aged between 8 and 9. Researchers checked their sleep disorders by using the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). They also used the Conners Parent Rating Scale (CPRS-R:S) to check the symptoms of (ADHD). Â
When researchers observed the collected data, they found that children who had sleep disorders between the ages of 8 and 9 had developed symptoms of ADHD between the ages of 10 and 11. Researchers also noticed that this link remained the same even after they excluded children with previous clinical problems such as premature babies or who previously had symptoms of ADHD. Â
One of the researchers said that early detection of symptoms of ADHD is very important. This study can help healthcare professionals  with the early detection of ADHD in children who have sleep disorders. This study can help us stop or reduce the risk of ADHD in the future. Â
This study clearly shows that childhood sleep disorders can increase the risk of development of ADHD symptoms later in life. This study is very helpful as it  can be used to promote healthy sleep habits during childhood. Sleep disoders and ADHD are very common. About 20% of people have sleep disorders and 3.5% to 7.5% of people have ADHD. Sleep disorders also affect children and increase the risk of development of ADHD by 25% and 73%. So, healthcare professionals should make some effective strategies to reduce this risk. They should suggest them some healthy sleep habits.Â
