The abnormal growth of the breast cells forms tumors and causes breast cancer. It is the most common carcinogenic disease and needs proper diagnosis and treatment. According to a new report published in The Lancet journal, breast cancer can cause almost a million deaths per year by 2040. This rise in number is almost double that of 2020. Â
In 2020, almost 2.3 million new cases were reported and 685,000 women died of it. Before 2020, the total number of cases for 5 years was 7.8 million around the world. This data clearly shows that the number of cases has continuously risen over the past few years. Â
Researchers predict that more than 3 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every year by 2040 if this trend goes on. Even though there are significant advancements in research and treatments, around 1 million women will die annually by 2024. This will affect low and middle-income countries very badly. Â
Anyone can get breast cancer as genetic variants are responsible for its development. But other factors such as family history, age, lifestyle, and hormone therapy can also increase the risk of breast cancer. So, researchers need to research more about these factors to reduce the risk of breast cancer. Â
One of the reputed experts says direct communication between patients and healthcare professionals can reduce the risk of breast cancer as it can lead to earlier diagnosis. After early diagnosis, healthcare professionals can make effective treatment plans to cure breast cancer. She further added healthcare professionals should get training to improve their communication skills.Â
