These days many people have started using cannabis very casually. This is happening for the first time ever as people are using cannabis every day as compared to alcohol. In a recent study, researchers have revealed that almost 17.7 million Americans used cannabis and 14.7 million used alcohol daily in 2022.This study was recently published in the journal Addiction. In this study, researchers used data from the U.S. National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Â
People who drink alcohol occasionally still choose alcohol over cannabis. But the number of people who drink alcohol every day has decreased over the past 15 years. On the other hand, the number of people who use cannabis every day has increased 15 times since 1992. At this time the daily use of cannabis was very low.Â
The use of cannabis was made legal in 1990 for the first time. 24 states and Washington have allowed people to use cannabis. On the other hand, 38 other states have allowed people to use it only for medical reasons. This is one of the reasons why the use of cannabis has increased. Â
Research says if a person starts using cannabis before the age of 25, it can increase the risk of mental health complications. But anyone who is 21 years old can buy cannabis in those states where the use of cannabis is legal. Regular use of cannabis can increase the risk of addiction. Sometimes it can also increase the risk of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. This syndrome causes vomiting.Â
Many people use cannabis every day after work or before going to sleep very casually. But if they use cannabis many times in a day then it can increase the risk of some health complications. They have a higher risk as compared to those who use cannabis occasionally. So, experts should make some effective strategies to stop these people from using cannabis every day. Â
