Calm and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy are collaborating to reduce end-of-year stress for all Americans. As part of the initiative, Dr. Murthy has developed “Mindfulness Tools,” a multimedia series meant to provide mental health support through mindfulness.
As per Business Wire, the video series, which is accessible for free on YouTube and Calm, consists of five sessions designed to guide individuals through real-world situations and emotions. Themes include reducing holiday stress, overcoming loneliness, navigating hectic days, and coping with uncertainty, change, and negativity in the world.
According to Dr. Murthy, access to mental health support is essential to our overall health. “During my travels across the country as Surgeon General, I’ve heard directly about people’s mental health challenges and loneliness. Although the pandemic brought stress, anxiety, and loneliness to the forefront, these difficulties existed long before the outbreak of COVID-19.
Families may handle stress and build one of the most potent sources of healing — their connections – with the aid of simple mental health tools and practices.” While three-fifths of Americans say the holidays impair their mental health, they are not the sole source of stress for Americans.
Dr. Murthy published the Surgeon General’s Framework for Mental Health and Well-Being in the Workplace last month, assisting firms in rethinking how to build a greater sense of connection, support employee growth, and so on.
“Building and establishing sustainable mental health habits is more crucial than ever as we approach the holidays and the new year,” said Calm’s CEO, David Ko. “By teaming with the nation’s doctor, we intend to provide our community with a resource to help them navigate the ever-changing experiences and emotions of life.”
The initiative is the most recent effort by Calm to improve Americans’ access to mental health options. In October, Calm selected The Essentials, a collection of free material and resources designed to assist its users with anxiety, stress, sleep, and other issues.
In this collaboration with the Surgeon General, Calm provides Americans with even more free, actionable, and approachable mental health solutions as the Christmas season approaches.
