A new study has recently found that people who use tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) lost significantly more pounds than those who use semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy). This study has revealed that individuals with overweight or obesity treated with Mounjaro were more likely to achieve significant weight loss and larger reductions in body weight compared to those treated with Ozempic.
This study was recently published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine. In this study, researchers involved 18,000 individuals who were overweight and obese. They divided them into two groups such as the Mounjaro and the Ozempic group. The Mounjaro group was consisted of people who were using Mounjaro. On the other hand, the Ozempic group was consisted of people who were using Ozempic. They were taking these drugs to treat type 2 diabetes. Both drugs were initially developed as type 2 diabetes medications. But they were later approved for weight loss purposes. Researchers mainly wanted to compare the effectiveness of these drugs.
When researchers observed the collected data, they found that both Mounjaro and Ozempic drugs are effective in promoting weight loss. 82% People in the Mounjaro group lost 5% or more of their body weight as compared to 67% people in the Ozempic group. But researchers also found that Mounjaro users were more likely to achieve greater weight gain as 42% of them lost 15% or more of their body weight. Overall, people in the Mounjaro group were 76% more likely to lose 5% or more of their body weight. These results clearly show that the Mounjaro drug is more effective for weight loss as compared to Ozempic.
Both drugs imitate the gut hormone GLP-1 that helps regulate blood sugar levels and keep the body healthy. But Mounjaro also activates another gut hormone known as GIP. This can explain why it had stronger effects that are found in the study.
This study clearly shows that the Mounjaro drug is more effective for weight loss as compared to Ozempic. Hence healthcare professionals should consider these effects and prescribe it to people. Obesity can increase the risk of many serious health complications. But drug can effectively reduce body weight and reduce these risks. This study will save obese people.
