Preclinical Study Suggest Drug-Free Nasal Spray May Ward Off Respiratory Infections

An exciting clinical study shows that a single nasal aerosol may be useful in prevention of viral and bacterial infections affecting the lungs. This research says what improves health is that this broad-spectrum nose spray lasts for a long time, is safe to use and if it is validated in humans, it will make a big difference in reducing respiratory diseases to humans.

As most of us witnessed through the COVID 19 pandemic of the recent past as to how germs affect our respiratory system, it is still there but we are fortified now and just do not contract flu seasonally. We also still have to address COVID.”

Flu and COVID-19 negatively affect the lives of thousands of individuals resulting in deaths and severe illness. Even minor cases can cause the discomfort that makes people miss work or school.

The common entry point for most viruses into our system is through our nostrils. Since, in airborne fashion like the flu or COVID, we expel tiny particles of moisture that germs can travel through. People around such healthy individuals inhale these droplets containing germs and they deposit themselves on the epithelial lining of the nasal cavity.

All the viruses penetrate our system through the nostrils most of the time. When we are afflicted with an airborne pathogen such as the flu or COVID, we exhale the pathogen in miniscule droplets of fluid. Healthy people around them inhale these droplets.

It goes further into their nose where the droplets then stick and spread into infecting the cells in the lining of the nasal cavity.

This paper refers to nasal spray formation as Pathogen Capture and Neutralizing Spray (PCANS). The team developed it with substances that were sourced from the FDA Inactive Ingredient Database.

The outcomes of Similar experiments with mice showed that the inoculation from the PCANS nasal spray could prevent an infection from a lethal flu virus (PR8) twenty five times lethal. This spray reduced the detection of viruses in the lungs by more than 99.99%. The inflammatory cells and cytokines in the lungs of mice that were given PCANS were normal.

This formula can kill many kinds of pathogens, including the lethal PR8 flu virus. This he noted shows how effective it is,” said Yohannes Tesfaigzi Ph.D., an author of the study. This study done on mice revealed that PCANS treatment done beforehand was effective.

Animals who took the medicine remain safe, in this experiment while the other ones still receives did not get protected. This particular study provides the foundation for many researchers to know what PCANS can do in the big pictures.
