Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform the healthcare industry in many ways, including improving the quality of care that patients receive. By leveraging advanced algorithms and data analysis techniques, AI can help healthcare providers make better decisions, optimize treatment plans, and identify potential health risks before they become serious problems.

One of the most significant impacts of AI on healthcare quality is the ability to improve diagnostic accuracy. AI-powered tools can analyze vast amounts of medical data and images to identify patterns and anomalies that might be missed by human clinicians. For example, AI can analyze medical images to identify early signs of cancer or other diseases, allowing for earlier diagnosis and treatment. This can lead to better outcomes for patients and a higher quality of care overall.

According to Pew Research Center, nearly half of Americans (47%) believe AI could help doctors and nurses provide better, more personalized patient care. And 43% say AI could lead to faster diagnosis and treatment plans, potentially saving lives in emergencies. However, there are also concerns about the potential negative impacts of AI in healthcare. More than a third of Americans (36%) worry that using AI could lead to errors or biases in treatment recommendations.

And 31% are concerned that it could lead to job losses for healthcare workers as AI technology takes over tasks previously performed by humans. The survey also found significant differences in attitudes toward AI in health care depending on age, gender, education, and political affiliation. For example, younger adults are more likely than older adults to view AI in healthcare positively, and women are more likely than men to express discomfort with the idea of AI being used in their healthcare.

Meanwhile, those with higher levels of education are more likely to believe that AI could improve health outcomes, and Democrats are more likely than Republicans to hold this view. Overall, the survey suggests that while Americans are aware of the potential benefits of AI in healthcare, they are also cautious and concerned about the risks and downsides of this technology. As AI continues to be adopted in health and medicine, it will be necessary for stakeholders to address these concerns and ensure that these technologies are used in ways that benefit patients and improve health outcomes.

A new survey by the Pew Research Center has found that while most Americans are concerned about racial and ethnic bias in healthcare, a majority believe that using artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnosis and treatment could improve the situation. Of those surveyed, 51% said that the problem of bias and unfair treatment would improve if AI were used more in healthcare, compared to 15% who thought it would get worse.

Americans are generally optimistic about the potential impact of AI on reducing medical errors. Still, there are concerns about the security of patient records and the personal connection between patients and healthcare providers. At the same time, higher education, income, and younger adults are more open to AI in their healthcare, and about half or more express discomfort with their healthcare provider relying on AI.

The study also found that racial and ethnic bias is a significant problem in health and medicine, with Black adults being especially likely to say this. However, among those who see a problem with bias, larger shares think using AI would make the issue better than worse.
