What’s the Difference Between ACLS & BLS?

If you’re an emergency medical technician, nurse, or other type of medical practitioner, you’re likely aware of the necessity of receiving ACLS and BLS certification. However, if you’re new to the medical field or have yet to undergo certification, you might be curious to learn about some of the key differences between the two.

As one of today’s leading medical certification providers, the team from medtigo Connect has shed a little light on the matter, so read on!

What Does ACLS Training Teach You?

Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) training provides you with the necessary knowledge to stabilize a patient that’s suffering a cardiac issue. However, it goes above and beyond merely providing medical personnel with essential techniques like how to use a defibrillator, understanding ECGs, as well as emergency-scenario algorithms to follow for specific situations.  ACLS will also teach how to administer medications to those suffering from a cardiac episode and use cardiac monitors and glucose machines.

What Does BLS Training Teach You?

Basic Life Support (BLS) training is much like it seems: it provides you with the knowledge necessary to stabilize a patient in need. This course gives you the tools you need to keep a patient alert and stable until you’re able to reach a hospital or first responders can get to them. This training course will teach you basic methods such as AED usages and CPR and how to stop adults or children from choking.

Medical practitioners aren’t the only ones that will benefit from a BLS course; many teachers, caregivers, lifeguards, and sports coaches also undergo BLS training.

Which Type of Certification is Right for You?

The right type of certification for you will depend upon your needs and requirements. Most employers will require both certifications for medical professionals, especially if you’ll be dealing with serious emergencies. Obtaining both can often open many more employment opportunities and an increased salary for those in the medical field.
