Pharmacology
Camostat inhibits the activity of serine proteases, which are enzymes involved in the cleavage of peptide bonds.
One of its targets is TMPRSS2, a serine protease expressed on the surface of certain cells, including respiratory epithelial cells.
Pharmacodynamics
Camostat interferes with the ability of the virus to enter host cells. TMPRSS2 is involved in the activation of viral glycoproteins, including the spike protein of certain coronaviruses.
