Actions and spectrum:
Cefatrizine inhibits the cell wall synthesis by inactivating penicillin binding proteins which alters the maintenance of structural integrity that leads to the death of bacteria.
Adverse reactions
Black box warning
Do not drive or operate heavy machinery.

Pharmacology:
Cefatrizine showed significant efficacy against gram-positive cocci, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella at concentrations below 1 ÎĽg/ml.
It also inhibits most β-lactamases but is ineffective against Serratia, Enterobacter, and indole-positive Proteus.
It showed superior activity against E. coli, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Citrobacter, and Shigella compared to cephalexin and cephalothin..
It also inhibits eEF2K.
Pharmacodynamics:
Cefatrizine has an anti-proliferative effect by acting as an inhibitor of eEF2K.
This drug induces ER (endoplasmic reticulum) stress in cells of human breast cancer, leading to cell death.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: It is absorbed rapidly in oral administration.
The process of absorption varies in a dose-dependent manner.
Distribution: It is well distributed in the body tissues.
Elimination: Oral cephalosporins usually undergo renal elimination.
Most of the drug is eliminated in unchanged form through urine.
Half-life: 3 hours
Administration:
Cefatrizine is administered orally in the form of capsules.
This may be given with or without food.
