mesalazine leads to a reduction in the rate of excretion of nitric oxide, which leads to an increased level of serum

Pharmacology:
Mesalazine has anti-inflammatory effects in the gastrointestinal tract inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. It may also modulate the immune response by suppressing immune cell activation and cytokine release.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption
Absorption ranges from 20-28%.
Distribution
43% bound to proteins.
Metabolism
Metabolized in liver and gastrointestinal tract form N-acetyl-5-aminosalicylic acid.
Elimination and Excretion
The elimination half-life is 2 hours.
Administration:
Melazine formulations includes oral tablets, rectal suppositories, and enemas.
Patient information leaflet
Generic Name: mesalazine
Why do we use mesalazine?
