Actions and Spectrum
triprolidine is an antihistamine. It works by blocking the effects of histamine, a chemical released by the body in response to allergens.
By blocking histamine, triprolidine can relieve symptoms associated with allergies, such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the throat or nose.
dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. It works on the cough centre in the brain to reduce the urge to cough. It’s commonly used to relieve dry, non-productive coughs.

Pregnancy Categories:
Category A: well-controlled and Satisfactory studies show no risk to the fetus in the first or later trimester.
<b>Category B: there was no evidence of risk to the fetus in animal studies, and there were not enough studies on pregnant women.
Category C: there was evidence of risk of adverse effects in animal reproduction studies, and no adequate evidence in human studies must take care of potential risks in pregnant women.
Category D: adequate data with sufficient evidence of human fetal risk from various platforms, but despite the potential risk, and used only in emergency cases for potential benefits.
Category X: Drugs listed in this category outweigh the risks over benefits. Hence these categories of drugs need to be avoided by pregnant women.
Category N: There is no data available for the drug under this category.
Pharmacology
triprolidine works by blocking the effects of histamine. It clashes with histamine for binding to H1 receptors on target cells, preventing histamine-induced responses.
dextromethorphan acts centrally in the brain to suppress the cough reflex. It does not have the addictive or analgesic properties associated with opioid-based cough suppressants.
Pharmacodynamics
triprolidine’s pharmacodynamic effect consists of the reduction of symptoms associated with allergies.
It also shows the side effect of central nervous system (CNS) depression, which can cause drowsiness and sedation.
dextromethorphan’s pharmacodynamic effect is the suppression of coughing. It reduces the urge to cough, providing relief from dry, non-productive coughs.
