Actions and spectrum:Â
It belongs to the class of cephalosporin antibiotic, which targets the proteins that are involved in cell wall construction in bacteria. Penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) are useful for synthesizing bacterial cell wall which specifically stops the activity. It achieves this by disrupting the linkage between peptidoglycan chains, which are the structural units of bacterial cell walls. It is effective both gram positive and gram negative bacteria.Â

PharmacologyÂ
It is a cephalosporin antibiotic, targets proteins that bind penicillin, weakening bacterial cell walls. It is administered intravenously as a solution. It’s effectiveness can be affected by bacterial resistance and patient factors like kidney function and potential allergies. Â
PharmacodynamicsÂ
Due to interference with cell wall production by cefpiramide, bacteria develop cell walls with reduced structural integrity. This leads to increase in the permeability, disruption of osmotic balance, cell lysis, and ultimately the bacterial death. Â
PharmacokineticsÂ
Limited data availableÂ
AdministrationÂ
It is administered intravenously by infusion or injection.Â

Generic Name: cefpiramideÂ
Why do we use cefpiramide? Â
It is a medication used to treat bacterial infections affecting the respiratory system and urinary system.Â
