co-adminstration of sibutramine with alprazolam may cause an increase in drowsiness, altered locomotor movement, confusion.
use of sibutramine with aspirin can rise the risk of bleeding
It may enhance the metabolism when combined with dexamethasone
sibutramine when administered with escitalopram can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome which includes confusion, vision disturbances, changes in blood pressure , abdominal pain etc
sibutramine when administered with fluoxetine can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome which includes confusion, vision disturbances, changes in blood pressure , abdominal pain etc
bupropion when combined with sibutramine can enhance the risk of causing seizures
metformin when taken with sibutramine should be monitored closely for alterations in blood sugar
Actions and spectrum:Â
sibutramine works at the neural synapse by inhibiting norepinephrine (NE), serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), and to a lesser extent of dopamine reuptake. It induces satiety and decreases in appetite by lowering the reuptake of these neurotransmitters resulting in less food consumption.Â

Pharmacology:Â
Pharmacodynamics:Â
Sibutramine inhibits serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake in invivo but not in invitro. The metabolites M1 and M2 limits the neurotransmitter reuptake in both invitro and invivo.Â
Pharmacokinetics:Â
AbsorptionÂ
It is rapidly absorbed.Â
DistributionÂ
Protein bound is 97%.Â
MetabolismÂ
It is metabolised to two different metabolites by cytochrome P450 isozyme.Â
Elimination and excretionÂ
It is eliminated through renal excretion with half life 1.1 hrs.Â
Administration:Â
It is taken orally daily.Â
