It influences neurotransmitter systems such as serotonin and norepinephrine which play crucial roles in mood regulation. It inhibits second messenger systems within neurons affecting intracellular signaling pathways and cellular responses to neurotransmitters. It also inhibits glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3) an enzyme involved in cellular processes.
