Actions and Spectrum:Â
Action:Â
Central Nervous System (CNS) Stimulation: fencamfamin primarily acts as a CNS stimulant. It increases the release and inhibits the reuptake of certain neurotransmitters, including dopamine and norepinephrine, in the brain. This results in increased neuronal activity, alertness, and wakefulness.Â
Spectrum:Â
ADHD Treatment: In the past, fencamfamin was commonly recommended for individuals with ADHD to assist them in coping with their symptoms. It aimed to improve attention, reduce impulsivity, and enhance overall cognitive function. However, it is essential to note that more modern and safer medications like methylphenidate and amphetamine derivatives are now preferred for ADHD treatment.Â
Frequency not defined Â
Dry mouthÂ
Black Box Warning:Â Â
None
Contraindication/Caution:Â Â
Hypersensitivity: fencamfamin should not be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to the drug or its components.Â
Pregnancy and Lactation: fencamfamin’s safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established, and its use is generally discouraged in these populations.Â
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs): fencamfamin should not be administered concurrently with MAOIs or within 14 days following the cessation of MAOI treatment, as it can lead to hypertensive crisis, a dangerous increase in blood pressure.Â
Glaucoma: Individuals with glaucoma, characterized by increased intraocular pressure, should avoid fencamfamin because it may worsen this condition.Â
Thyroid Disorders: fencamfamin may affect thyroid function and exacerbate thyroid disorders. It should be used cautiously in individuals with thyroid problems.Â
Pregnancy warnings:    Â
Pregnancy category: N/AÂ
Lactation: Excreted into human milk is unknownÂ
Pregnancy Categories:        Â
Category A: Studies that were well-controlled and met expectations revealed no risk to the fetus in either the first or second trimester.Â
<b>Category B: There were a lack of studies on pregnant women and no evidence of risk to the fetus in animal experiments.  Â
Category C: there was evidence of risk of adverse effects in animal reproduction studies, and no adequate evidence in human studies must take care of potential risks in pregnant women.   Â
Category D: adequate data with sufficient evidence of human fetal risk from various platforms, but despite the potential risk, and used only in emergency cases for potential benefits.  Â
Category X: Drugs listed in this category outweigh the risks over benefits. Hence these categories of drugs need to be avoided by pregnant women.   Â
Category N: There is no data available for the drug under this category
Pharmacology:Â Â
fencamfamin is a stimulant drug once used as an appetite suppressant and for its potential stimulating effects on the central nervous system.Â
Pharmacodynamics:Â Â
fencamfamin primarily acts as a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant.Â
It is believed to increase the release and inhibit the reuptake of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, such as dopamine and norepinephrine.
This results in enhanced neurotransmitter activity within the synaptic cleft, resulting in heightened alertness, improved mood, and increased energy.  Â
PharmacokineticsÂ
AbsorptionÂ
It is absorbed from the GI tract following oral ingestion, The rate and extent of absorption may vary among individuals.Â
DistributionÂ
Once absorbed, fencamfamin is distributed throughout the body via the bloodstream.Â
It can penetrate the blood-brain barrier, leading to its stimulant effects on the central nervous system.Â
MetabolismÂ
fencamfamin undergoes metabolism in the liver.Â
Excretion and EliminationÂ
fencamfamin and its metabolites are excreted primarily through the urine.Â
The elimination half-life of fencamfamin is not well-established, but it will likely be relatively short.
Administration: Â
The route of administration is oral.Â

Generic Name: fencamfaminÂ
Why do we use fencamfamin? Â
Appetite Suppressant: fencamfamin has been used as an appetite suppressant. It may help individuals reduce their food intake and manage their weight.Â
Attention and Concentration: Some reports suggest that fencamfamin may have improved attention, concentration, and alertness in individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).Â
Stimulant: fencamfamin acts as a central nervous system stimulant, which may increase wakefulness and energy levels. This property has led to its use as a stimulant in certain situations.Â
