eravacycline: it may increase the therapeutic efficacy of with pheneticillin
The interaction may depress the therapeutic efficacy of tetracyclines
Eravacycline belongs to the class of antibacterial medications known as tetracyclines and is a fluorocycline.Â
Because eravacycline binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and stops amino acid residues from being incorporated into elongating peptide chains, it interferes with the production of proteins by bacteria.Â

Pregnancy Categories:     Â
By binding the 30S ribosomal subunit, it inhibits the incorporation of amino acid residues into elongating peptide chainsÂ
A broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including those that are resistant to many drugs, are susceptible to eravacycline’s action.Â
Eravacycline is structurally altered to circumvent common tetracycline resistance mechanisms, and it is not much impacted by ribosome protection proteins or efflux pumps, which usually make previous tetracyclines ineffective.Â
Intravenous administration infuses over ~60 minutes.Â
It may be administered IV through dedicated line or Y-site.Â
If multiple medications are infused sequentially into the same IV-line, flush with 0.9% NaCl both before and after the eravacycline infusion.Â

Generic Name: eravacycline (Rx) Â
Pronounced: ER-a-va-SYE-kleenÂ
 Â
Why do we use eravacycline?
Eravacycline is indicated for the treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections.Â
It is effective against a broad range of gram-positive, gram-negative, aerobic, and anaerobic bacteria.Â
