Oleandomycin is a macrolide antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It attaches to susceptible bacteria’s 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing the elongation of polypeptide chains during protein synthesis. This interference with protein production disrupts bacterial growth and leads to bacterial cell death.Â

Oleandomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible organisms. Through attachment to the 50S ribosomal subunit’s 23S RNA, it prevents the translocation of peptidyl tRNA and inhibits the synthesis of bacterial proteins. This interference disrupts the bacterial growth cycle, leading to eventual cell death. Â
