Pharmacology:Â
Cimetropium, a semi-synthetic alkaloid obtained from belladonna derived from scopolamine. It is an antispasmodic and antimuscarinic agent.Â
Pharmacodynamics:Â
Cimetropium bromide is an anticholinergic agent that works by preventing muscarinic cholinergic receptors from functioning, without regard to their specific type. As a result of this blockage, the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) is decreased leading to reduced smooth muscle contractility which may be due predominantly via decreased intracellular calcium action mediated by cGMP.Â
Pharmacokinetics:Â
Limited data availableÂ
Administration:Â
This tablet should be taken orally, with or without food. It would be better to administer this tablet on the same time every day.Â

Why do we use cimetropium?Â
This is an antispasmodic and antimuscarinic agent indicated in treating irritable bowel syndrome. It works by causing relaxation of the intestinal muscles.Â
