The organism in question determines whether omadacycline is bacteriostatic or bacteriocidal. It interferes with bacterial protein synthesis but has no effect on peptidoglycan, DNA, or RNA production.Â
The fact that omadacycline is not susceptible to tetracycline resistance mediated by tetracycline efflux pumps makes it an improvement over current tetracycline medicine.Â
Patients should not eat or drink anything other than water for four hours prior to or two hours following the administration of omadacycline tablets.Â
Four hours after taking tablet, avoid consuming dairy products, antacids, or multivitamins.Â
For intravenous administration infuse through dedicated IV line or Y-site.Â
If multiple medications are infused sequentially into the same IV-line, flush with 0.9% NaCl or D5W both before and after omadacycline.Â
