Contraindications:
Caution:
Pregnancy consideration: Insufficient data available
Lactation: Excretion of the drug in human breast milk is known
Pregnancy category:
Category A: well-controlled and Satisfactory studies show no risk to the fetus in the first or later trimester.
Category B: there was no evidence of risk to the fetus in animal studies, and there were not enough studies on pregnant women.
Category C: there was evidence of risk of adverse effects in animal reproduction studies, and no adequate evidence in human studies must take care of potential risks in pregnant women.
Category D: adequate data with sufficient evidence of human fetal risk from various platforms, but despite the potential risk, and used only in emergency cases for potential benefits.
Category X: Drugs listed in this category outweigh the risks over benefits. Hence these categories of drugs need to be avoided by pregnant women.
Category N: There is no data available for the drug under this category
Pharmacology:
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption
magnesium carbonate is an oral preparation of magnesium, and its absorption primarily occurs in the small intestine. Like other forms of magnesium, magnesium carbonate is absorbed through active transport and passive diffusion processes in the distal small intestine, mainly the ileum.
Distribution
Once absorbed, magnesium is distributed throughout the body via the bloodstream. Magnesium ions are essential for various physiological processes and involve numerous biochemical reactions in cells and tissues.
Metabolism
magnesium carbonate is not metabolized in the body; it remains in its chemical form until excretion.
Elimination and Excretion
magnesium carbonate is primarily eliminated from the body through the urine. The kidneys filter magnesium from the blood and excrete it into the urine. Some small amounts of magnesium may also be excreted through the feces.
Administration:
Oral administration
Take magnesium carbonate by mouth with a full glass of water. It is usually taken after meals or as needed to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach.

Why do we use magnesium carbonate?
magnesium carbonate has various uses, primarily due to its antacid properties and role as a magnesium supplement. Here are some common uses of magnesium carbonate:
